New Year 2013 - cold mountains and hot springs

Finally, we arranged everything, new design is online and ready for new posts. I'll start with our new year Pyrenees adventure.

This is my firs New Year party out of the city deep in mountains, among cold gorges, wet moss and snowy peaks. But the main thing is - hot sulfurous springs in the wild. 30th of dec we move out, four of us. Guys on bikes, girls hitchhiking. I'm to lazy to type whole story so enjoy the photostory:

Day one

XC bike vs. CX bike - both heavy loaded with food and warm clothes. It's -5 around here on foodhills of Pyrenees.

First stop 46 km from home. Checking Natursy (tofu factory) dumpster for vegieburgers. Success! Now ve have some stuff to fry on the hot fire flames

Roadblock

Day two

Next morning began with -7C temperature, everything around is frozen, except us. We're ready to storm firs 35km climb.

I'm ready too!

First mountain pass is done. ~2000m above sea level. I pushing pedals way ahead Chipsix. CX gear ratio is too hard and he pushes pedals hard falling off behind me. On to we rest a bit, put all clothes we have on us to protect us from cold on our way down and down we roll!!! 20km to border of France

Our base camp. We lost a race to girls, hitchhiking went much faster. We climb down to valley of river Tet to find a place protected from cold wind, to raise our tarp there. It's 31.dec late afternoon, while we where preparing camp, bringing wood, putting together rock stove night fell and it was time to go to hot springs of Fontpedrouse to wait for the clock strike 12. This time the springs where full of people celebration New year here. It was inappropriate to take pictures here, and also our state of mind wast much of support.

Day three

Nex day began with wet snow falling from the sky. and -3C. Slowly we wake up, make fire and breakfast. We eat and the separate in two groups to explore surroundings. Snow is over now.

I went with gita up the mountain to small old village Prats-Balaguer.

Old church and cemetery the main component of every village here in Pyrenees

Prats-Balaguer is small village, with tinny empty streets. It's dead quiet here.

Decorations to scare of burglers

A component for evening herbal tea

WTF?

Day four

In the morning we pack our stuff and head down the road, down La Tet valley to next village to find a legenday abandoned SPA station.

Magic architecture

Old road tunnel

To SPA goes old narrow road...

....with caution sign (I don't understand french)

We go down the road an around one corner of the cliff we find a huge abandoned building, with many other constructions, it's stays here forgoten many years and time takes it's toll. Everything falls apart..slowly..

Somebody was living here, or stayed just for one night. We didn't meat nobody, so we decided to take this place and make a camp here. There is onion on the table and 1,5 of vine. success!

Getting cozy

The hot springs. Right by La Tet river, baths made from boulders.

Water was amazing and tonight we enjoyed it only in our company

Day five

It's our last day in Pyrenees. Today we go hiking to Gourges de Caranca - with amazing hiking path perforated in a face of the cliff. And after the hike again hot baths in the new place

Thues - les- bains working SPA station. Here hot springs are everywhere, runing down, tubes, slopes  ad water taps. Air smells like old eggs here. It looks like microorganisms like too hot baths... yak!

Warm waterfal

Name of the street grown inside a tree

Gourges de Caranca welcomes us with a tunnel carved in a stone wall

We are at the bottom of the valley by the river, but path slowly goes up the hill. That where we are heading.

Fall = joy

Picnic in the sun

At one point path we where following ended up by the river, there is no more banks only straight cliff walls. On the walls there are metal bridges made specially for us.

We continued our journey climbing up and down pathways and bridges

ready for winter diving

Soon we approach legendary paths carved in a cliff

Now somewhere below is about 10 floors of free fall, maybe more. It tickles nerves standing on the edge

This is the track we started with, somwhere down the valley

The day ended up again with hot springs and hot food. It was the end. Next day we woke up and Gita was filling sick, time to go home. After a while i was feeling sick too. Seems like a virus of some kind. In afternoon Chipsix was falling down also. So we decided to take train back home.

Too bad we got this virus in the end, journey was all the way super nice and exciting, with new beautiful views and emotions
