Gear

I won’t write here long descriptions of bike parts we are using and clothing brands we are sporting. Let’s make thing simple.

Bikes

Now we are travelling on 26’’ MTB bikes. We are happy and satisfied. Our first Re-cycle Europe tour we cycled on ‘retro’ road bikes. They where a bit faster than MTB, but limited amount of gears and high ratios made cycling in mountainous terrain complicated. Now our road bikes are resting in Latvia.

Although MTB don’t roll as fast as road bikes, with 3 chainrings and 9 sprockets any mountain pass is done easy. One bonus pint for MTB – it’s possible to ride it with slick tires on the road, change to ‘tractors’ and go off-road. We both like spending time riding trails more than road. No cars and closer to nature.

Travel gear

Our home is 3x3m diy tarp tent. Our bed two Millet sleeping bags with possibility to hook them up together and karimat to put on the ground for insulation.
Our kitchen is 1L pot, foldable hobo stove, gas stove (for longer trips) and plastic spoons.
First aid kit for bikes, first aid kit for humans, Kryptonite mini u-lock for security and dozens of electronic gadgets.
Some gear elements are changed according to trip conditions and expectations.

Carrying stuff

We use diy bikepacking bags for handlebars and frame bags. For longer trips we have back racks to put panniers on them and backpacks bungeed on the top. Backpacks are useful for off-bike hiking.
